Lawrence County Livestock Youth Show Talent In Recent Competitions

With the coming of spring means the coming of cattle shows, but for the Lawrence County 4-H Livestock Club competition has already begun. 4-H members participated in various contests at the Building Better Beef Feeder Calf Show in Fayetteville on February 18, 2013. The contests included grading stocker cattle, a beef skillathon, and showing feeder calf pens of three.
Participants included John Calvin Bryant, William Vaughn, Morgan Scroggins, Taylor Prince, Blaine Heatherly, Canaan Duncan, Morgan Lehnert, Madison Bedford, Bryant Gobble, Dylan Powel, Mandy Whitfield, and Ryan Jones.
Placing in the Skillathon Contest Junior High Division (6th -8th grades) was Ryan Jones at 5th place, Morgan Scroggins at 4th, and Morgan Lehnert placed 3rd.
Canaan Duncan placed 4th with his class of heifers averaging 812 pounds.
In the Grading Contest, Madison Bedford placed 5th in the Junior Division, (pre 4-H through 5th). In the senior division, (9th-12th grades) John Calvin Bryant placed 3rd and Mandy Whitfield took home 1st. Congratulations to these participants.
The club enjoyed a hamburger lunch sponsored by Deer Valley Farm of Fayetteville, and the Lincoln County Cattlemen’s Association.
On March 9, 2013 the Lawrence County Livestock Judging Teams competed at the Tennessee Beef Agribition Livestock Judging Contest held at the James E. Ward Fairgrounds in Lebanon, TN.
The Junior Team consisted of Canaan Duncan, Madison Bedford, and Taylor Prince. In the Junior High Division, Lawrence County had 2 teams competing. Team A, consisting of John Calvin Bryant, Mandy Whitfield, William Vaughn, and Morgan Lehnert placed 3rd. Team B consisted of Savannah Gambel, Dylan Powel, and Morgan Scroggins, and placed 8th overall.
